Hollywood real estate drama has spilled into real life, stirring tension among the city’s top luxury agents. Mauricio Umansky, CEO of The Agency and longtime Real Housewives star, and Jason Oppenheim of Netflix’s Selling Sunset are now battling fiercely over commissions.

The controversy revolves around Amanda Lynn, a realtor who appeared on Season 8 of Selling Sunset, and the $30 million sale of Kanye West’s former Malibu mansion.

Sale Canceled After Months of Delays

The $30 million sale fell through last week, seller Bo Belmont confirmed. Amanda Lynn connected with the buyer, but the deal didn’t close.

Belmont, who bought the striking Tadao Ando–style concrete home from West in 2024, said he hired Lynn only for a social media post. The $30 million cash buyer repeatedly missed deadlines, leaving the sale in limbo.

“He was an underqualified buyer,” Belmont said. “After multiple delays, we aimed to close by the end of July, but he couldn’t deliver the funds.”

Commission Controversy Erupts

A source close to Lynn claims the realtor expected a three percent commission for the sale, but felt pressured to reduce it. Belmont, according to the source, had also signed agreements with Umansky and Oppenheim in February, leaving Lynn feeling blindsided.

“Bo, Jason, and Mauricio pushed Amanda to cut her commission from three percent to one percent to cover their shares,” the source said.

Belmont rejects this version, saying Lynn always knew the arrangement. He insists her one percent commission was agreed from the start for her limited role in promoting the property online. “Amanda knew they were my listing agents the whole time. Everyone agreed to the one percent commission,” Belmont said.

Multiple Brokers on One Property

Having more than one broker on a single property is not unusual in luxury real estate. Typically, both parties are informed and work collaboratively, sometimes in a co-listing arrangement.

The source said that as the West home sale moved forward, Belmont told Umansky and Oppenheim there was a buyer, but the deal hadn’t closed. On March 25, the agents listed the property on MLS platforms like Zillow and Redfin at $39 million to try for a higher price.

Listing the property under their names made Umansky and Oppenheim official sellers with Lynn, securing them a separate commission from Belmont.

“Jason and Mauricio were always getting the three percent commission and splitting it,” Belmont said. “Amanda was always, and agreed to, getting one percent.” He added that no one received a commission because the sale was ultimately canceled.

Belmont is now preparing to renovate the home and find a new buyer, though sources claim the sale could still close soon.

A Home With a Notorious Past

Kanye West’s former Malibu property has a history as dramatic as any reality TV plot. The four-bedroom, 4,000-square-foot mansion suffered significant damage during West’s ownership.

The rapper purchased the home in 2021 for $57.3 million and proceeded to remove windows, doors, electricity, and plumbing. He also demolished interior walls, leaving the home exposed to the elements. In December 2023, West listed the gutted mansion, nicknamed “Little Ando,” for $53 million. Belmont ultimately acquired it for $21 million.

Belmont now aims to repair the damage and reconnect the home to its iconic Japanese architect, giving it a fresh start.
